Earlier I mentioned that for our first date I was invited to Thailand for a little time to get to know each other better, away from the humdrum of home, time to figure out our favourite poolside drinks and talk about anything and everything. A week in paradise hands down beat any date that I had ever been on! Needless to say our little romance was off to a great start! We decided to visit Krabi again as the first stop on our honeymoon.. revisit where it all began. We stayed in a different hotel this time around and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Here is an article I wrote on our stay for Sassy Australia.
Krabi – Discover a different side to Thailand
I’m about to change the way you think about Thailand. No more disco tuk-tuks, buckets of Long Island Iced Tea, or haggling for goods down on Bangla Road. Instead, let me paint a picture of a (relatively) undiscovered prehistoric-looking paradise. Imagine limestone towers that stand tall out of the ocean, the bluest waters and miles and miles of white-sand beaches. It’s time to leave the madness of Phuket behind and head two hours north to the hidden gem Andaman, Krabi. Still relatively untouched by the tourist trade, Krabi exudes an unspoiled, calming vibe that sweeps over you almost instantaneously. This secret spot is fast becoming honeymooner heaven.
Krabi is located on the west coast of Southern Thailand, about a two-hour drive from Phuket Airport. Organise a private car transfer through your hotel – all flights from Australia into Phuket International land late at night and the last thing you’ll feel like doing is haggling with a taxi driver over the cost of the trip. Private transfer cars are wonderfully air conditioned with professional drivers that meet you as soon as you’ve picked up your bags. They offer cool towels, bottled water and snacks to make the long drive more enjoyable.
If you’re considering planning your honeymoon or a romantic vacay, look no further than Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort. Upon arrival you’ll be greeted by several beautiful smiling faces and feel relaxed instantly. This stunning resort sprawls over 16 landscaped acres with 240 spacious guest rooms and 12 luxurious suites to choose from. There is a great gym, activity centre and two swimming pools – one is geared for relaxing and the other boasts a killer swim up bar! Did someone say Pina Colada? In a Coconut? Can I extend my stay?
Between the land and sea is the 1.8 kilometres of pristine and unspoiled sands of Klong Muong beach. The beach is graced daily by gorgeous baby elephants and their trainers. For a price, you can feed them bananas and hand them hula-hoops, but a loving stroke is free. Water sports are plentiful and you can lose hours on the sea as a captain of your own kayak, catamaran or stand-up-paddle-board – all available for hire from the hotel’s beach shack.
If you are heading away with your other half and want some romantic down time, speak with the reservations team and have their events planner organise some little luxuries. For a small price, you can have a bottle of champagne chilling in your room for your arrival along with a bath filled with aromatic oils and floating rose petals. The bed will also be adorned with love (it’s the little things we girls love… right?). If you’re looking to make a real impact, or even ask that special question, then I would strongly recommend a private dinner setting. The hotel can organise a dinner for two on the sand with your own server all night long.
You may be miles from the madness, but Krabi still has loads to offer! The Sheraton offers a shuttle service into Ao Nang town (about 15 minutes from the hotel) that runs every half an hour. The driver will drop you at the mouth of the town and pick you up from the same spot. Ao Nang is bustling with waterfront restaurants and bars, tour vendors and street markets.
If you’re looking for some more relaxing downtime then head down to the resorts own Mandara Spa and book yourselves in for a couples massage. This little oasis has the most luxurious treatments completed with one of worlds top tier spa brands, Payot. The couples room is beyond amazing with a spa tub for two, outdoor shower, and relaxation corner. We both agree that it was definitely one of the best treatments we’ve ever had.
The best time of year to visit is November through to April (the same as Phuket) purely because the weather is drier. My recommendation is to visit during the low season, May through September. The price of accommodation is lower, the island is quieter and the weather isn’t scorching. This time of year is classed as the wet season, which generally means an afternoon storm or two. They roll in around 4pm – just as happy hour starts! Sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty of the tropics!
I hope it’s as good to you as it was to us.
